Mr & Mrs Davis in Maine - Day 2, Part 5

And this is the view from the summit.

At 1530 feet high, Cadillac Mountain is the highest point along the North American Atlantic seaboard, and is the first location in the United States to receive the light of dawn most days of the year.

Mount Desert Island was named by French explorer Samuel Champlain in the early 1600s. He gave it that moniker because of the flat, rocky summit of the mountain, which does actually resemble a desert landscape.

You'd almost be able to convince yourself you were in a dessert, if it wasn't for all that ocean around you. :)
