February 28, 2016 - Part 3

This shot was taken from the top of the gorge, looking at the trail on the top of the mesa.

The trail leads to the left, down the hill...

...and ends on the other side of this hill.

Views to the west.

This gorge was pretty incredible.

This couple came walking onto the rock ledge as we were standing around admiring the view.
It was a little terrifying watching them.
Even more so when they sat down.
I called across the ravine and asked if they wanted me to snap a few photos of them...
my skills aren't great, but what an incredible setting!

February 28, 2016 - Part 1

We went hiking on North Table Mountain today.
South Table Mountain is beside us;
North Table Mountain is on the other side of town,
heading towards Boulder.
The trail is just 1.5 miles but it's rated moderate to advanced in difficulty...
the grade going up is pretty steep.

The view from about halfway up.

Jed's friend Jack joined us.
Tracy and I figured it would be a good idea to have two young men,
one for each of us,
if we couldn't make it.  :)

The top of the mountain is a huge mesa -
so weird to be on a flat surface on the top of a mountain!

That's Denver in the background, on the far left.

February 23, 2016

That 17" of snow we got a couple of weeks ago?
Almost gone.
Until last night and this morning, when we got 4".
Not great, but we'll take it.  :)

February 14, 2016 - Part 2

Tracy and I celebrated Valentine's Day with dinner at the Sherpa House.
This is what it looks like during the day.

But this is what it looks like at night...much better.
It's just a block from our house...
I can't tell you how fun it is to be able to walk to places here - I love it!
I love the Sherpa House too - it's like a mini-vacation to Nepal.
Come visit us and we'll take you there!

February 14, 2016 - Part 1

We picked Jed up from camp this afternoon.
It didn't look quite so magical in the daylight,
but it was nice to get a better look at the cabins,
especially since they are so beautiful.

The drive back home was stunning.
On Friday we drove through Denver to Colorado Springs to check into our hotel first,
then took Jed to camp in Woodland Park.
Today we drove back roads from Woodland Park to Golden,
so not only did we miss all the traffic,
we were rewarded with winding roads and mountain vistas the entire 2 hour drive.

February 13, 2016 - Part 3

On our way back to town, we passed the most beautiful roadside attractions I've ever seen.

February 13, 2016 - Part 2

I have to confess, I'm not much for the typical dessert landscape.
I know people love the Grand Canyon, but I've never been very interested in seeing it.
I love trees...those rocky vistas seem too barren.

So I was shocked by how much I loved Garden of the Gods, because it's basically just a bunch of big rocks.

But oh, what rocks!!

There are people on top of this rock...click on the picture to make it larger so you can see them.
