What a lovely way to close out the month of September.

More rain today.
I still love rainy days,
but not quite as much as I did a while back.  :)

September 22, 2020

I have been pretty bored with this Project 365 for a while now.
This was not a good year to commit to taking photographs every day,
since we haven't been going anywhere for the vast majority of it.
But...
today the texture of this pillow caught my eye
and I started looking around
and noticed lots of other texture in the same room.
My friend Rhonda is incredible with a macro lens...
I have neither the lens nor the skill she does,
but I'm going to try to zoom in a little for the next few days.

We were so glad to find the trampoline park open!
Makes me wish I was young again.  :)

September 19, 2020

Our grandson's first weekend with us!
He is a happy kid, despite trying to look otherwise for the camera.  :)
So enjoyed breakfast alone with him this morning.

September 16, 2020

I made chocolate pudding today.
It's one of the most boring things ever to make.
I got a stool and something to read to entertain myself while I stirred.
But at some point I became intrigued with the pattern of the whisk on the frothy top...
it was really interesting.
I grabbed my camera, but weirdly enough,
I couldn't replicate the beautiful patterns while holding the whisk with my left hand,
and trying to operate the camera with my left hand was futile.
This is the best I could get...
it's too bad it doesn't capture what I saw.

September 15, 2020

I was talking with my older son recently
and learned from him that paper towels are becoming hard to find.
I've stayed stocked up on them so I hadn't looked in quite a while, until today...
sure enough.
I thought we were past at least this part of the pandemic.
*sigh*

Yet another light afternoon rain.

September 13, 2020

Jed was outside on our back deck this afternoon in a light drizzle
and found an abundance of interesting insects he thought I might like to photograph.
I'm the one who found this hole in the deck interesting.
:)

We think this bee was still alive...it looks like it was trapped somehow in the crack of two boards.

I'm assuming this is an expired cicada.

Beautiful underbelly.

And an expired spider.
I've had my fill of critters in and around this house for the time being.

Props to Jed for noticing this solitary red leaf in our backyard.
Fall is on its way!

Here's a sneak peek of my Christmas cards!
I heard twice recently that the Farmer's Almanac is calling for colder temperatures this year
and maybe even some snow in my part of the world.
I'm so ready!!

September 9, 2020

Obviously I didn't take this photograph, but I'm sharing it because I love it.
We had a station wagon when I was growing up that had a back-facing third row of seating in the back.
My brother and I loved to sit back there and make faces at the drivers behind us.
We were charming children. :)

September 8, 2020

This old hi-fi stereo belonged to my great-aunt.
Brad fell in love with vintage when he was in college,
and he took the hi-fi home to his apartment after spending a summer with us in Missouri many years ago.
This spring, he and his family moved into a house they had built.
They found a larger, more midcentury-modern design hi-fi for the new house,
and I got this one back.
I'm pretty happy about that.

September 7, 2020

The late afternoon sun was slanting in the window and splashing light on this basket
in such a striking way.
Just in the time it took me to get my camera, it had softened considerably.
I'm always so disappointed when I can't capture what I see,
either because I'm not quick enough
or I'm not talented enough.

September 6, 2020

Tracy is convinced the ice maker in our fridge is possessed.
Half the time it's not working and he is scared to death he'll have to live without ice,
and the other half of the time it's overproducing
to the point that ice cubes fall out when you open the freezer door.
We're living in the waxing stage right now.
These two chunks of ice cubes are fused together in two different ways.
Not much good for putting in glasses,
but how cool is that??

September 5, 2020

It's never a good idea to go to the grocery store hungry,
especially if you go later than dawn and have to wait in the check out line.
This is why.
I've loved chocolate-covered blueberries ever since we lived in Maine,
but in Maine they're actual blueberries covered in chocolate.
This is not that.
It was really interesting...
a chocolate coating covering 2 little blueberry-flavored gummies.
Considering I'm 1000 miles from Maine,
and no one there will ship chocolate-covered blueberries to my neck of the woods
until it cools off a little in October,
this will do.

September 3, 2020

We had quite an exciting evening around here.
Jed went to the refrigerator to get a glass of milk,
and just out of the corner of his eye,
he saw the head of a snake duck back under the fridge as he stepped towards it.
His dad was due home soon,
and I stationed Jed on the floor across from the fridge to make sure the snake didn't escape
while we waited.
Sure enough, the snake poked his head out several times and watched Jed.
Meanwhile, I looked up the description online and determined it was a rat snake.
They're harmless, but I wasn't about to coexist with it in my house.
When Tracy got home,
he fashioned a loop of twine onto a long pole
we pulled the fridge out
and he caught it!
He estimated it to be 2-3 feet long.
Sadly I was too freaked out to take any pictures.  :)
