June 10, 2016

We had friends from Missouri visiting us the last few days and had a grand time showing them around Golden.
I was delighted they wanted to see the Colorado School of Mines geology museum,
because though we visited it when we were in Colorado last June,
we hadn't been back since moving here in October.

Still playing with the focus.  :)

There is an incredible world map in the museum, with each continent made with a different gem.
Australia is our favorite!

I don't remember seeing this on our last visit...
basically a Geomag set suspended over a rotating magnet,
causing the Geomag creation to also rotate.

Later in the day we took our friends for a drive on the Lariat Loop.

We were looking for letterboxes along the way...
this was our friends' first time letterboxing and the first 2 boxes were missing...
not a good introduction to our favorite pasttime.
Third time's the charm, though...
we found this prize at the Buffalo Bill Museum on top of Lookout Mountain.

On our way back down the mountain, we passed a deer on the side of the road...
he didn't seem the least bit concerned when we stopped and backed up to take a few shots of him.  :)

Love this expression!  :)
