May 26, 2015

I've been trying for days to get a picture of our mama bird in her wreath nest.
This is the closest I've come so far...that's her little head on the right side of the bow.

May 25, 2015 - Part 3

We headed down to Kure Beach for a Memorial day picnic dinner.
I love the late-in-the-day light on the beach.

I was surprised to see large outcroppings of rock in the water.
I suspect they were placed there as barriers, rather than being natural elements.
Rocks are not natural to beaches in the South.
Especially rocks with moss growing on them...that's just weird.  :)

But that moss is so soft!!
It made for easy barefoot climbing on the rocks.

May 25, 2015 - Part 2

I found this little guy on one of the front porch railings this morning.
I hope for his sake that frogs don't eat eggs.

May 25, 2015 - Part 1

We have more eggs now!  Four perfect little eggs.

And one that sadly didn't stay in the nest.

We can just barely see the tops of the eggs from inside the house.

We  have eggs today!!!

This is the mama bird that has built a nest in our wreath.
She is a tiny little thing; a cardinal, I think.
I tried to get a picture of her in the nest but she's not having it.  :)

May 18, 2015

The design in the middle of this glass in our front door is transparent, so when we first moved in I put up window film and cut it in the shape of the design so no one would be able to stand at our front door at night and look in on us.  I think it's kind of crazy that people have windows in their doors!  Anyway, today I was in the hallway near this front door when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye.  I was shocked to see a tiny bird perched on the bow of the wreath hanging on the door.  I was able to get close enough to see that she had stuff in her mouth and then watched her put it down.

That could only mean one thing....

...we have a bird building a nest in our wreath!
I peeled back the window film and was treated to this wondrous little treasure.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this, because with this nest I can get a really good peek at the eggs and babies and we won't miss a thing like we did with nest in the climbing roses.

The tide brought a plastic bag to our marsh and deposited it in what is the middle of the mash during low tide.
After discovering it, we waited for the next high tide and sent Jed out on a search-and-rescue mission.

I didn't get a picture of Jed getting the bag up with the paddle and dropping it onto the front of the kayak because I was laughing too hard.  :)

This part was even funnier - he had to back out of the little creek he was in because it was too narrow to turn around.

Jed was a good sport about the whole thing and it made for an entertaining evening.

May 6, 2015

I was so excited to get a much better shot of one of the babies today!!!
Look at him - he was looking right at me!!

Jed washed the lawnmower today and was pretty excited about how much better it looked afterward.
It was so dusty he didn't even remember (because he couldn't see it) there was a silver tag on top. :)

Here's our little cardinal's nest...see how hard it is to get a clear shot?

This is terribly blurry, but look at those little beaks!!!  :)

April 30, 2015 - Part 3

I checked on the nest again this evening and this time the mama cardinal was sitting on it and did not budge from her spot initially.  The foliage is still so thick around the nest that I couldn't get a clear shot of her, but you can see her tail feathers sitting atop the nest.

The clicking of the camera startled her and she flew away to a safer perch. I tried to get a quick shot of the nest but couldn't, and retreated back into the house so she could return to her babies.

April 30, 2016 - Part 2

I stopped in Decker's classroom to give her a hug before taking Dyce and Jed out for lunch.
She was anxious to demonstrate her sliding skills. :)

April 30, 2015 - Part 1

Today was Grandparent's Day at Dyce and Decker's daycare center.  The preschoolers performed several songs and it was so sweet.  I love Dyce's shy little smile before the program began.

But after the program started, Dyce was all business.  He did such a great job!  He knew all the words and all the hand motions, and he kept his eyes on the leader most of the time.  I know it may sound biased for me to say, but I think he was the best.  :)

It was AMAZING to hear these children sing the praises of the LORD!
