It's fall break!!
We left this morning for a short trip to the southwestern part of Colorado to celebrate.
This is the Blue Mesa Reservoir on US Hwy 50 between Gunnison and
Cimarron.
Blue Mesa Reservoir is the largest body of water entirely in
Colorado,
at 20 miles long and 96 miles of shoreline.
It is located in
the Curecanti National Recreation Area.
Although the Blue Mesa Reservoir is located in an area of the state
known as "high desert" land,
it doesn't get terribly hot in
the summer because of the altitude.
Winter months average low temps
just under 0 °F.
Rainfall is scarce, averaging only 9 inches a year.
It does snow on these desert lands,
but the snowfall usually melts
quickly due to the high altitude, dry climate,
and abundant sunshine,
even in the winter months.
