August 30, 2016

Tracy took Kim and Steve out again today for a hike, this time at Mount Galbraith.
That's one I haven't even been on...
it was weird to see pics show up on Kim's Facebook page of a place in my town that I haven't seen.  :)
But alas, duty calls and homeschooling waits for no one.

August 29, 2016

Tracy's sister Kim and her husband Steve arrived for a week-long visit yesterday from North Carolina.
This morning Tracy took them to hike South Table Mountain.
I stayed home to help Jed with his schoolwork (no vacation for him unfortunately)
and to take pictures of them on top of the mountain.
This first picture was taken by Kim, and I think it's the best one I've ever seen of S Table.

They called me from the top, and I went out on our second floor balcony to take pics of their accomplishment.

If you click on the pictures to enlarge them, you'll see three tiny figures up there on top.

I think Steve took these two shots from the top of the mountain.
That's our little town of Golden.

Tracy and his sister Kim.

August 21, 2016

We went back to the same park tonight for a concert by the Jefferson County symphony orchestra.
It was a wonderful evening - beautiful weather and lovely music.

This is how Jed feels about having his picture taken these days.  :)

Golden is such a nice little town.

August 20, 2016 - Part 2

As if that wasn't enough, he decides to hang upside down while he's up there.
See that little orange speck at the top of this picture?
That's his helmet.
Upside down.

He was in hog heaven.
:)

Finally he makes his descent.

That is one satisfied boy.
:)

August 20, 2016 - Part 1

Jed joined a tree-climbing expedition this afternoon.
He was a little nonplussed to begin with....

...but he was suitably impressed (and happy) by the time he got near the end of his rope.  :)

For perspective's sake, here is the tree from the bottom up.
Jed is the little speck on the branch to the far left.
I was very happy to be taking pictures on the ground.  :)

August 13, 2016 - Part 2

The clouds this evening were absolutely stunning!

August 13, 2016 - Part 1

We went to a park new to us this evening - Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood.
They were having a backyard astronomy presentation at the ampitheater.
Jed was part of a demonstration of planets...
much to my dismay, he is growing uncomfortable with this type of situation.
Don't tell him I posted this picture.  :)

A park ranger demonstrating the best way to practice astronomy.  :)

As dusk settled in, the rangers started a campfire in the firepit.
We were delighted with that, as it's been dry here this summer and campfires have been banned.

Jed was particularly delighted since the rangers also provided marshmallows. :)

August 1, 2016

Tracy's sister Kim got me hooked on Sudoku when we were visiting her while we lived in NC.
She gave me a small book of puzzles and I was obsessed.
I finished that book and started another, a gift from dear friends in Maine.
My mom and dad gave this Sudoku-type game called Colorku to Jed for Christmas.
The board stays set up on our dining room table and we all play every day at lunch.
Now we're all obsessed.
:)
